So many of us ‘give back’. To our friends, family, community, animals and planet. We all do it in different ways.
However you choose to ‘give back’, we’d love to hear about it.

Several of my neighbours have allotments so I collect food peelings, tea bags, tissues etc for them to make compost. Also give them large pieces of cardboard to use as a weed suppressant on the allotment.
Collect large plastic bottles for the annual Apple Day – in our local orchard.
Odd balls of wool, fabric etc is donated to a local craft club, who make all sorts of things for charity but also knitted designs for our post boxes too.
Looking after your mental health is as important as your physical health and I found that I had a hole that needed filling with something practical to keep my mind ticking over.
I was given some scraps of fabric from a friend as they were a having clear-out and I set about thinking about what I would be able to use it for. This set me on a course of trial and error finding out what I enjoyed making, what others would like and also how I could re-use materials that would normally go to landfill.
I try to only use materials that either come from offcuts/remnants of larger pieces of fabric, have been gifted to me or I have bought from charity shops.
Making something from scratch is really rewarding and I enjoy the challenge when starting on a new project.
What you do?
Go for long walks with my dog Oscar (Siberian Huskey), sometimes with his friend Dex (Fox Red Labrador) to national parks and lakes around Leicestershire.
Why you do it and what inspired you?
I do it to keep me and my dog fit and healthy as well as the fact we both enjoy exploring new places and lovely wildlife’s.
I’ve always been passionate about sustainability and have tried to be more environmentally conscious in my day to day living. During the pandemic, I started a new hobby, fudge making! I loved sharing this with friends and family whenever restrictions allowed me to. I’ve carried on with this hobby and I regularly make batches of fudge as presents.
Most recently, I made a Christmas themed fudge for my team (mint chocolate... yum!) with a sustainable twist… fair trade chocolate and sugar sourced in the UK and using reusable tupperware.
It’s a beautiful world. So feel free to share it with your other Green Academy students.
